Minnesota Continuing Legal Education Requirements

Reporting Method: Self-Reporting

Compliance Period: Three-Year Cycle

Reporting Process: Attorneys must report their CLE compliance through the Minnesota Board of Continuing Legal Education's online reporting system.

Compliance Deadline: August 31 of the attorney's reporting year.

Reporting Deadline: August 31 of the attorney's reporting year.

Total Credits Required: 45 credit hours every three years.

Specialty Credit Requirements:
  •  3 hours of Ethics 
  •  2 hours of Elimination of Bias in the Legal Profession 
Maximum Online Credits: 45 credit hours. All required CLE credits may be completed through approved online courses.

Carryover Credit: Up to 15 excess CLE credits, including up to 2 Ethics credits and 1 Elimination of Bias credit, may be carried forward to the next reporting period.

Record Retention: Attorneys should retain certificates of completion and supporting CLE documentation for at least three years following the close of the reporting period.
