Wisconsin Continuing Legal Education Requirements

Reporting Method: Self-Reporting

Compliance Period: Two-Year Cycle

Reporting Process: Attorneys must electronically certify their CLE compliance through the Wisconsin Board of Bar Examiners (BBE) CLE Reporting System. Reporting cycles are based on the year of admission to the Wisconsin Bar (odd-year admittees report in odd years; even-year admittees report in even years). 

Compliance Deadline: December 31 of the attorney's reporting year. 

Reporting Deadline: February 1 following the compliance deadline. 

Total Credits Required: 30 credit hours every two years. 

Specialty Credit Requirements: 3 hours of Legal Ethics and Professional Responsibility. Ethics credits must be completed through live or interactive programs. 

Maximum Online Credits: 15 credit hours may be completed through on-demand courses. At least 15 credit hours must be completed through live or interactive programs. 

Carryover Credit: Up to 15 general CLE credits may be carried forward to the next reporting period. Ethics credits may not be carried forward.
