Reporting Method: Self-Reporting

Compliance Period: Annual

Reporting Process: Attorneys must report their CLE compliance through the State Bar of Montana's online MCLE reporting system. Although many providers report attendance, Montana is a self-reporting jurisdiction, and attorneys are responsible for ensuring all completed credits are accurately reported. 

Compliance Deadline: March 31

Reporting Deadline: May 15 

Total Credits Required: 15 credit hours annually.

Specialty Credit Requirements: 2 hours of Ethics.

Maximum Online Credits: 5 credit hours may be completed through approved self-study or on-demand courses. At least 10 credit hours must be completed through live or interactive programs. 

Carryover Credit: Up to 30 live CLE credits, including up to 4 Ethics credits, may be carried forward to the next reporting period. 

Record Retention: Attorneys should retain certificates of completion and supporting CLE documentation in accordance with State Bar of Montana requirements.
